Hell Let Loose Squad Strategy: Garrisons, Callouts and Attacks That Actually Work
An HLL squad strategy guide for spawn networks, spacing, suppression, defence, flanking and concise communication across public matches.
Official store artwork by Expression Games and Team17 via Steam
A useful HLL squad creates a safe spawn, moves with spacing, reports threats clearly and attacks from an angle the enemy is not already watching. The squad leader sets a simple task, Support enables infrastructure, specialists solve specific obstacles and rifle roles protect them. Kills support map control; they do not replace it.
The strategy is built around current HLL role responsibilities and official descriptions of 50v50 objective modes. Vietnam-specific implications are explicitly labelled as preparation, not proven launch meta.
I chose the topic, scope and source list, and I am responsible for publishing corrections. Automation and AI can help with research sorting, first-draft structure and repetitive formatting. Facts, prices and claims must still trace back to the sources shown on the page. This is not labelled as a hands-on product review.
Defend north approach, build a spawn, or clear the road is enough to align strangers.
Direction, landmark, count and action beat a long description.
After gaining ground, preserve it before chasing the next fight.
The squad loop
| Phase | Squad action | Leader question |
|---|---|---|
| Spawn | Confirm a useful outpost or nearby team spawn | If we wipe, where do we return? |
| Observe | Find the dangerous direction before everyone fires | What is stopping movement? |
| Shape | Smoke, suppress, mark armour and place supplies | Which specialist unlocks the next step? |
| Move | Advance in two elements with spacing | Who covers and who crosses? |
| Consolidate | Replace the spawn, watch the flank and report | Can the team hold what we gained? |
Spawn control is strategy
A squad that only runs from an old spawn spends most of the match repeating a failed route. Outposts keep the squad relevant; team-wide spawn infrastructure lets the wider team create pressure from more than one direction.
Do not place a spawn merely because the cooldown is ready. Think about concealment, enemy approach routes, the next objective and whether one artillery strike or patrol can remove the entire attack.
A six-player public-squad template
- Squad Leader: sets one objective, maintains the spawn and relays command information.
- Support: stays available for infrastructure and announces when supplies are ready.
- Anti-Tank or Engineer: solves vehicles, obstacles and defensive work as the map requires.
- Machine Gunner or Automatic Rifleman: creates pressure while the mobile element crosses.
- Two flexible infantry roles: protect specialists, carry smoke or ammunition and watch flanks.
Callouts people can act on
| Weak | Useful | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Enemies over there | Three infantry, north hedge, moving east | Gives count, landmark and movement. |
| Tank! | Heavy tank, road west, facing south | Lets AT choose an approach and warns the team. |
| I died | Machine gun watching the field from red roof | Converts a death into a marked threat. |
| Push now | MG suppresses; rifle pair crosses left on my mark | Assigns cover, movement and timing. |
Attack and defence rules
On attack, avoid feeding the strongest enemy angle. Keep one element visible enough to hold attention while another uses cover to create a new line. Suppression matters when someone moves because of it; noise without movement is just ammunition spent.
On defence, protect approaches and spawn routes rather than piling every player inside the objective. Leave enough spacing that one grenade, vehicle shell or flank does not erase the squad. Report lost ground early so the team can react before the point is surrounded.
How this changes in Vietnam
Steam's confirmed features suggest that vertical transport, rivers, thick jungle, tunnels and mortar units will create more ways to bypass a predictable front. The durable response is layered observation: watch routes, protect infrastructure and communicate transport or tunnel activity quickly.
Specific launch meta will need real matches. Do not assume every current HLL garrison distance, vehicle habit or map route transfers unchanged.
Gaming guide scope
This guide is written for players everywhere. Norway-specific retailer, warranty and price comparison advice belongs in the hardware buying guides, not in game tutorials.
FAQ
What wins matches in Hell Let Loose?
Reliable spawn access, map control, information and squads that can coordinate movement usually matter more than one player's kill count.
How much should an HLL squad talk?
Enough to share threats, intent and status without narrating every movement. Short, actionable callouts keep the channel usable.
Should the whole squad flank?
Not always. A small mobile element can flank while another element preserves pressure, covers the route and protects the spawn.
Sources and methodology
I use official game documentation and patch notes first, then clearly identified community tools when they add something useful. This is source-backed guidance, not a claim that I personally tested every weapon, map or patch.
